I didn't know Savoy, but have always loved nature, especially mountainous regions for the strength they impart. As well as being an amazing ski area, Les 3 Vallées offers a unique natural setting at the gateway to the magnificent National Park of La Vanoise.
On waking up, I first take advantage of the scenery. Radiant sunshine, fresh sparkling snow. Then I set off to go surfing with my wife on the slopes of Mont Vallon. At lunchtime, facing this fabulous panoramic view, we share a board of cold meats and a few "tartinades" with a glass of good wine. We also occasionally go to the skating rink late in the day, before dining in one of the resort's delightful restaurants.
The Maya Altitude, of course! Otherwise, I strongly recomend a visit of the charming village of Saint-Martin-de-Belleville for its church and typical streets. As for activities, try out a snowmobile, you won't regret it! And if you are in the area from Februrary 15th to 19th, 2023, the Alpine World Ski Championships in Courchevel and Méribel are an absolute must.
Savoy offers gastronomy of remarkable richness. Throughout its history, it has undergone many influences, notably with the arrival of saffron. It benefits from many local products: fresh and matured cheeses, cold meats and meats such as Savoy lamb, and you will find all kinds of wild herbs such as "génépi" or "serpolet" thyme. Not forgetting fish from the lakes and rivers such as brown trout and arctic char, and a vineyard benefitting from exceptional terroirs. As a chef, it is a real joy to work with all these fine products.
On arriving at Maya Altitude, I took my very first helicopter ride. When the restaurant opened, we had to heli-lift the merchandise, it had snowed so much!
